Gentle Yoga
Open to all levels and recommended for young and old, injured and athletic alike. This class focuses on slowing down the pace from our hectic week and rejuvenating the body and mind with fresh prana (life energy). We will explore basic yoga poses and how to connect them through attention to breathing, alignment and mindfulness. The class opens with a centering session and takes time in Deerga Swaasam (Yogic Breath) to bring the heart rate down and nourish the body with oxygen. Therapeutic in nature, you will learn techniques to help you gain flexibility, while immersing yourself in a relaxing class that moves at a slower pace – allowing ample time to enjoy each pose. The class ends with an extra long Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) and then a meditation. This is a great class for all ages and stages.
Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, incorporates physical asanas, breathing, mantra, and meditation to safely and effectively raise the kundalini energy. Kundalini energy is creative and lies dormant at the base of the spine. Through the ancient techniques and technology of kundalini yoga, this dormant energy is awakened and raised in an attempt to balance the chakras and experience a sense of enlightenment as well as physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Yogi Bhajan said, “Happiness is the birthright of every human being.” The practice of kundalini yoga enables us to claim that birthright.
Qigong
Qigong literally means energy work so the nature of Qigong is very elusive which makes it fun, relaxing & very empowering. There are many different types of Qigong, soft & hard styles. The softer/yin styles focus on healing the mind, body & spirit. While the harder/yang styles focus on strength, endurance & protection in a martial sense. Overall qigong focuses on using the powers of breath, intention, movement & visualization in combination to heal yourself & others. When using these techniques properly you are able to move, push, & circulate energy internally & externally! Qigong can be used in everyday life to bring more energy & awareness to everything that you do… martial arts, meditation, music, art, dance, cooking & everything else. If you can breathe & believe… you can do Qigong!
Mindfullness Meditation
This is an ongoing, drop-in mindfulness meditation group. Each week we begin with a session of seated meditation in the Zen style (zazen) and walking meditation (kinhin) followed by a reading and time for questions and discussion. Basic meditation instructions are given as well as practices for bringing mindfulness into all aspects of daily life.
The Zen Buddhist tradition offers powerful techniques for cultivating mindfulness and understanding the nature of the True Self. In addition to being a profound support for spiritual growth, recent research reports a wide range of benefits for physical and psychological health. Please bring your own cushions.
Meditating as a group, reinforcing each other’s efforts, we sit, walk, drink tea together, listen to talks on the Dharma and learn how to live our human, daily life in harmony with all…
Level 1: Beginner
These classes are for students new to yoga, those returning after a break from their practice, or for those who want to deepen their understanding of the basics. Emphasis is on detailed instruction, basic alignment, breathing techniques and deep relaxation. The focus is on cultivating strength and flexibility of the body and mind.
Level 1-2: Beginner/Intermediate
This class builds upon the foundation set in Level 1. A wider range of postures is explored and more complex variations are introduced. Modifications are offered for those wishing for a gentler experience. These classes always include reflection, breathwork and deep relaxation. If you’ve never practiced yoga before, taking at least 2-3 Level 1 classes prior to taking a Level 1-2 class is strongly encouraged.
Level 2: Intermediate
You’ve experienced Level 1-2 and are ready to take your practice to a more advanced level by working on a wider spectrum of more challenging poses. These classes focus on refining the poses, building endurance and cultivating peace of mind. We will explore more advanced breathwork (pranayama) and meditation techniques. This class encourages you to develop a well-rounded and challenging practice that you can take home.
Level 3: Advanced
These classes are for students who have had a solid yoga practice for six months or more. More challenging standing poses, back bends, and seated poses are introduced. Advanced seated and standing poses, twists, handstands, headstands, and arm balance poses are included. Regular practice outside of class is strongly encouraged.
Level 1-2-3: All Levels
These classes are open to anyone and any level. The teachers of these classes excel at teaching to a group of students with a mixed level of practice. Modifications will be given for more beginning variations of postures, as well as invitations to those more experienced for more intermediate or advanced forms. All levels of practice are honored and a full selection of props is available for student use.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga offers a wonderful balance for the more active styles of yoga. The practice, based on a Taoist approach, focuses mainly on seated and reclining postures that are held with minimal use of muscle (Yang) for longer periods of time. Through this process we are able to access the ligaments and even the bones, applying gentle stress to these areas, which helps to strengthen connective tissue, enhance joint flexibility and increase the flow of energy throughout the body.
