FAQ
- Is yoga a religion?
No, yoga is a philosophy that can be applied toward any religion. Yoga will actually deepen your experience of your particular religion. People of any and all religious backgrounds can benefit from yoga.
- What should I bring to class?
Bring water, a towel and a yoga mat. Please wear comfortable clothing.
- Do I have to be in shape and flexible to practice yoga asanas?
No, anyone at any level can practice yoga asanas. In each class, variations of the asana/posture will be given. Remember yoga is a process, not a goal, and ultimately yoga has nothing to do with having a flexible body.
- What if I am unable to do most of the yoga asanas/postures?
Again, yoga is a process, not a goal. None of us can do all of the yoga asanas/postures. Remember if you are breathing with awareness you are doing yoga.
- I just found out that I am pregnant. Can I start practicing yoga?
Of course, but try a prenatal class. If you are not in a prenatal class you must let the instructor know you are pregnant and how far along you are in your pregnancy.
- Do I have to be young to practice yoga?
No, people of all age, level and size can practice yoga. Of course, practices will vary according to your age, level and size.
- Should I be a vegetarian to practice yoga?
One of the goals of yoga is to become non-violent toward all beings. A vegetarian diet is a practice in non-violence, but is something you choose to work towards. Being a vegetarian is a personal decision that no one should force upon you.
